Wooden Rocking Horse
Wooden Handcrafted Traditional Rocking Horses:
Our exquisite old fashioned style Rocking Horses are hand crafted locally from local Tasmanian specialty timbers by a master craftsman. Made from solid timbers, these horses are destined to become family heirlooms. Solid enough to be rocked daily by many children in a group setting, beautiful enough to be a permanent feature piece in a Grandparents home to delight visiting grandchildren over many years.
No shortcuts on the quality of workmanship and materials: solid Tasmanian specialty timber (this one is Celery Top), each piece of timber is hand selected by the expert eye of our maker. The generous mane and tail are genuine horse hair, the padded saddle and bridle / reins and stirrup straps are a generous thickness of quality leather, all machined by the hand of the maker; the stirrups are solid brass, as are the buckles, studs and rings. Each horse comes to life after weeks of dedicated cutting, carving, sanding, varnishing and 'dressing'. Several layers of lacquer give a smooth almost mirror like long lasting protective finish.
The horse pictured is a small size suited to playgroup and little kinder ages; also available in a large size to suit big kinder / prep age; and a smaller working version is made for decorative display as 'dolls' size.
Rocking, much like swinging, is a beneficial therapeutic activity, a 'slide horse' produces a soothing rhythm swing back and forth, back and forth. the rocking horse gives confidence to the young child as they begin with the assistance and close supervision of an adult, they learn a valuable sense of balance during movement, then move on to be able to mount and dismount and discovery how to rock unaided; the older child will also be captivated with the freedom experienced by the smooth rhythm, discovering that they can control the speed with subtle adjustments of their body movements, they become carried away with imagination, transported into a make believe adventure world where they maybe skilfully riding a real horse.
