Anna Mykhalchuk is a Ukrainian artist specialising in the traditional folk art style Samchykivka which originated from the little villiage Samchyky. This traditional and distinctive style of decorative painting is listed on the register of Cultural Heritage.
The imaginative floral decorating of homewares and furnishings was considered to bring good luck and good health to the home owner.
Anna and her small family are refugees living in safety in Hobart since 2022, Anna's work has been so well received since her arrival she has been commissioned to paint three public murals.
We have four of her traditional patterned decorative cards (blank inside and with envelope); Two cards using traditional patterns to portray our unique and exotic animals - Platypus and Tassie Devil; An inspiring colouring book featuring Tasmanian birds with Samchykivka designs to have a go at colouring in; and we have a booklet that is a collaboration between Anna and two other Ukrainian Artist/authors who have found themselves sheltering in Tasmania, the book is a cute little book depicting nine strange native creatures that the ladies have met in our country. The amusing text was written in Ukrainian, we have the English translation version (Ukrainian version available on request).
