Be sure to dry the boat thoroughly after sailing in water and before packing away.
If it is difficult to insert the mast into the sailing boat: Wood naturally expands and contracts so sometimes the mast does not fit easily into the hole in the boat. Rub the tip of the mast with wax or a dry soap bar, then use a hammer to gently tap to insert the mast into the hole. Repeat the process and the hole will widen enough so you can insert the mast manually.)
