Auris Wooden Xylophone Pentatonic 7 key

This beautiful professional quality wooden Xylophone is more than a toy, it is a genuine correctly pitched musical instrument, made by professinal instrument company Auris for children. Widely used in Steiner schools around the world, this instrument is also excellent for therapeutic settings.

The 'pentatonic' arrangement of notes means it is impossible to play a wrong sounding note, a pleasure for anyone to improvise and sound 'musical'. For an unskilled child (or adult) the focus is on enjoying the experience of making beautiful harmonious sounds, rather than on trying to follow a tune. The pentatonic instruments are also a pleasure for those listening to the inexperienced musician.

It’s the instruments with wooden bars that are xylophones – ‘xylos’ is Greek for wood (with metal bars they are 'glockenspiels').

The timber of each key is carved out under the centre of each key to make the instrument correctly pitched to each note on the scale, the notes sit on a rubber bed to prevent the sounds from becoming muffled. The sounds created by this instrument are very soothing and uplifting.

Two sturdy rubber head mallets are provided (for the younger children its recomended to use one, for focused play, and keep the other as a spare)
