The set of four seasonal screens begins in Winter: after Mother Earth has awoken the sleepy Root Children, she is admiring the new spring clothes that she had encouraged them to make. Then Spring: the iconic picture where the Root Children enrobed in their respective flower gowns venture towards the light and file out above the ground into the fresh air. Then Summer: the children are depicted enjoying frolicking in the warm sunshine alongside the butterflies, bees and insects. Lastly Autumn: when the leaves begin to fall it’s the sign for the Root Children to re-enter the Earth to slumber, Mother Earth is there to welcome them back.
